FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 1, 2024

(New York City, New York) – The World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) today announced that Asa Radix, MD, PhD, MPH, will begin serving as the organization’s new president for a two-year term. Dr. Radix previously served as co-chair of WPATH’s Standards of Care 8 working group and is a clinician and epidemiologist with expertise in transgender medicine. Dr. Radix is the Executive Vice President at the Callen-Lorde Community Health Center in New York City, an Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health and a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine. They have over 20 years of experience providing primary care services to trans and gender diverse people.

In addition to Dr. Radix, the new WPATH executive committee includes President Elect Loren Schechter, MD, a plastic surgeon from Rush University, Chicago, Stephen M. Rosenthal, MD (Treasurer), a pediatric endocrinologist at UCSF, and Chris Mclachlan, MSocSc (Secretary), a clinical psychologist from South Africa. Marci L. Bowers, M.D, gynecologist and surgeon, remains on the board as Past President.

“I am grateful to my WPATH colleagues for their continued dedication to advancing evidence-based gender affirming care for people around the world and I look forward to working with the Executive Committee and our Board of Directors to continue to support WPATH’s mission,” Dr. Radix said. “Together, we will continue to work to promote evidence-based care, education, research, public policy, and respect in transgender health.”

WPATH is a non-profit professional and educational organization devoted to transgender health representing regional associations around the world including USPATH and EPATH. Members include psychiatrists, surgeons, pediatricians, endocrinologists and primary care doctors from countries around the world who are experts in the medical and psychological aspects of gender affirming care. WPATH’s professional, supporting and student members engage in clinical and academic research to develop evidence-based medical protocols and standards of care for transsexual, transgender, and gender-nonconforming individuals internationally.
